Referring to the latest statistics of the International Organization of Grapes and its products in 2018, Darab Hassani said: “Grape production accounts for 7.4 million hectares of arable land in the world, which is Iran’s share.” The total area under grape cultivation in the world is over 308 thousand hectares.
He continued: “Of the area under cultivation of 308 thousand hectares of grapes in our country, 289 thousand hectares are fertile and more than 19 thousand hectares are non-fertile.” Also, 75% of the country’s vineyards are irrigated and 25% are rainfed.
The Director General of the Office of Cold and Dried Fruits, added: “Evaluation of grape production in the world shows an increase in production from 74.3 million tons in 2014 to 77.8 million tons in 2018 and production in 2018 compared to 2017 growth of 6 It has had 5%.
She added that China was the world’s largest producer of grapes with 11.7 million tons, followed by Italy with 8.6 million tons and the United States with 6.9 million tons.
Hassani said: “The most important product produced from raisins is grapes and its production in the world is more than 1.3 million tons in 2018.”
She reminded: “Among the major producers of raisins in 2018, Iran is the third largest producer and exporter after Turkey and the United States with an average production of 200,000 tons and exports of more than 120,000 tons.”
Regarding the appreciation of raisins, the director general of the Office of Cold and Dried Fruits added: “The export of raisins with a value of 164 million dollars in 1998 has played an important role in the export of agricultural products.” This amount has increased by about 6% compared to 1397.
Referring to the naming of this year by the Supreme Leader as the Production Jump, she said: “The potential to increase raisin exports to 150,000 tons is projected for this year.”
Noting that the amount of grape production in the country is about three million tons, Hassani pointed to the major production figures and added: “The dominant grape cultivars in the country are white and red seedless (about 80 to 90%) with fresh consumption;” Of course, changing the cultivars to desktop cultivars with high viability in the cold storage through grape work is a priority.
She added: Fars, Qazvin, Hamedan, Khorasan Razavi, East Azarbaijan, West Azerbaijan, Zanjan and Markazi provinces are the best producers of grape products in the country, respectively.
Hassani said that the area under grape cultivation and production in the country has a high position in the world, adding: “Our country is far from ideal and ideal in terms of yield per unit area and quality of products produced in some regions.”
He said the cost of producing one kilogram of grapes per kilogram was high due to the traditional methods of planting, holding, harvesting and post-harvest methods, adding that this would reduce economic costs and reduce competitiveness among producers.
Hassani continued: “Low performance, high waste and cost are affected by various factors, the most important of which is the type of plant training system.”
Referring to the implementation of the Faraz project, the director general of the Cold and Dried Fruits Office said: “In this project, grape development is done scaffolding and the purpose of the Faraz project is to reduce labor costs due to the possibility of using machines and increasing performance compared to the traditional system.” .
He mentioned the other advantages of implementing the Faraz project as the possibility of dealing with damage caused by cold and hail and the attack of birds and reminded: the efficiency of this system in penetrating light and preventing pollution caused by fruit contact with soil increases the quality and quantity of crop production. It happens.
